18:30 BST - First Presidential Lecture

Please join us for the reconvened 110th AGM followed by the first of Jane Power's Presidential Lectures, by Richard Kirby and Sam Etchell

Jane's Presidential theme is “Power to the People” and the title for the presidential lecture series is “Unsung Heroes”. While we all get excited about the latest developments and technology, there are areas that are just as important that contribute a huge amount to the safety and operation of our railways and signalling systems. They have their own challenges and can be just as fascinating as the technology we employ – the lecture series will shine a light on some of these perhaps under-appreciated areas. This talk is on the “marching army” that goes into carrying out a major project, the sheer logistical effort and its hundreds of contributors.

The 4 Lines Modernisation (4LM) project is a large, complex CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) migration of London Underground’s Subsurface Railway (SSR). The project is transforming the Metropolitan line, the Hammersmith and City line, the District line, and the Circle line, across 13 migration areas and a fleet of 192 passenger trains and 33 engineering vehicles.

For building security reasons, registration for attending in-person has now closed.
