The Certificate represents a globally recognised qualification which demonstrates that you have a wide understanding of the fundamentals of the subject.
For those who have already decided on a career in railway control engineering, it is a valuable standalone qualification. It offers accelerated advancement to higher grades of IRSE membership. It is also the essential first step to obtaining the IRSE's Advanced Diploma - the gold standard for railway control engineers.
For others, the knowledge gained will be invaluable when working with other railway professionals.
Extensive study materials, written by industry experts, are provided online, free of charge and you do not need to be a member of the IRSE.
You do not need any prior knowledge or experience but you need to allow at least 50 hours of study time. If you already have some knowledge or experience, you may need less time.
Over half the candidates are typically from outside the UK.
The certificate qualification is gained by taking a 90-minute online examination at a place of your choosing. It is offered twice a year in March and October
If you have special requirements for sitting exams, please contact the team at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss these - you will need to supply a medical certificate before any requirements can be put in place.
