Moving Block Signalling can open up huge possibilities for urban and inter-urban transport in densely populated commuter areas and determination of the following three critical pieces of information are essential to achieving this: Train Location, Train Direction and Train Length.

In this presentation Dr. Monish Sengupta, Lead Principal Consultant, Ricardo Rail will explain the role of the Onboard Broken Rail Detection System (OBRD) in overcoming these problems.

Also covered will be the background of the Freight railway in Western Australia and the associated challenges.
