Presidential lecture No.7: ‘The standardisation of Chinese Metro Train Control System: from automatic to autonomous’
29 Mar 2022 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Section: Presidential Programme Lecture (events@irse.org)
You are invited to join us for the seventh and final of Ian Bridges’ Presidential Programme lectures on the theme “the age of the intelligent railway”.

Professor Tang FIRSE (Beijing Jiaotong University) will be discussing the standardisation of the Chinese Metro Train Control System in this lecture which has been organised in conjunction with the IRSE China section.

As the total length of urban rail exceeds 8,709km in China, urban rail systems have become the first choice of citizens for inner-city travelling. The number of trips in Chinese urban rail systems has increased sevenfold in the past ten years, transporting 23 billion passengers per year.

As a key leader and pioneer for the Chinese railway development, Professor Tang, from Beijing Jiaotong University, will unveil the Chinese Metro Train Control Systems (CMTCS) from the initial concept to the design of existing systems and future development. Specifically, Prof Tang will first introduce the motivation and development of automatic train control systems in Chinese metro systems, for example the CBTC (Communication Based Train Control System) and FAO (Fully Automatic Operation) systems. Then, he will present his new research that focuses on the development of autonomous train control systems in China, involving the definition, grading and standardisation of CMTCS. Some test cases and experiences in Beijing metro, with the aid of new digital technologies, such as AI (Artificial Intelligence), machine learning and virtual coupling, will also be introduced in the development of high-level CMTCS.

Members and non-members are welcome to join us for this free online lecture, please register here.
