Crewe Hub – Crewe Basford Hall & Independent Lines re-signalling (CBHIL)

Re-signalling and re-modelling of the Crewe station area is planned for early Control Period (CP) 7 and will interface with the re modelling works planned for HS2 Phase 2B Southern Connection. However, much of the signalling assets at Basford Hall and on the Crewe Independent lines are approaching life expiry, and the Crewe Independent lines are not signalled for passenger services. Basford Hall, Crewe Sorting Sidings North and Salop Goods Jcn control areas will be re-signalled and re-controlled to Manchester Rail Operating Centre (MROC) in CP6.

The project needs to interface with other schemes within the wider Crewe Hub programme and coordinate with the proposed HS2 Southern connection works. Additionally, the scheme intends to deliver a separate workstream to support the use of the Independent Lines as a diversionary route for select passenger services during the future blockade of Crewe Station, focusing on track, drainage and overhead line equipment condition.
