Testing and software-based critical systems on the railway - A Presidential Programme series lecture

In the fourth in the series of presidential lectures, testing and software-based critical systems on the railway will be explored by Nicholas Wrobel and Robin Hirsch as part of Dr Daniel Woodland's theme of challenges of change in complex CCS systems.< /p>

The authors will consider factors such as: the requirements and typical operating envelope; a framework for system level testing; key elements of the test rig; a methodology to determine the test scenarios; metrics to measure the software's fitness for purpose, achievable levels of confidence and the number of test runs required to achieve a given confidence level and to satisfy the engineering safety and assurance case.
