The IRSE Midland & North Western Section extend an invitation to attend a Technical Visit at the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO)

As a RIA member and relatively new entrant into the rail community, the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO) would like to introduce themselves and bring to your attention their new R&D facility which may be relevant for some of the product and/or service developments you are currently engaged in.

They have recently been handed over the keys to the Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre (VLRNIC), a unique, purpose-built, research and development facility based in Dudley in the West Midlands. The VLRNIC comprises a three-storey innovation centre, complete with engineering hall, laboratories, offices, and events suite, together with a brand new 2.2km test track located along part of the mothballed South Staffordshire line leased from Network Rail. The VLRNIC will support BCIMO in the delivery of its vision for sustainable public transport, with a specific focus on supporting the development of Very Light Rail and other innovative and low-cost technologies for the whole of the rail sector.

Of particular note is the Rail Development and Test Site, which includes the ground floor Engineering Hall and 2.2km test track and offers an extensive range of facilities to support the development and testing of future rail technologies.

• Note: To go on the test track and through the tunnel visitors need to wear PPE – hi-vis vest, safety boots/shoes and a hard hat. (Please advise if you are not in possession of PPE and they will their best to provide)
