The next Presidential lecture will continue the theme of "Unsung Heroes" with Steve Turner discussing the role of safety & assurance.
The paper will consider handling of CBTC signalling system interfaces in the context of a major infrastructure programme for a new or modernised railway. Technical and programme interfaces will be covered to draw out impacts on the technical assurance of a CBTC signalling system, such as ETCS or bespoke CBTC solution for Metro application.
The paper explores the importance of having a robust technical assurance strategy, that supports the full development lifecycle encompassing multiple system iterations, to reach maturity against the integration, test & commissioning of the CBTC signalling system, followed by trials of the railway and initial revenue service.
