L&SE Section's October technical presentation is 'ORR CP7 review for signalling based on draft determination'

Join the L&SE section for their October technical meeting with Ian Maxwell FIRSE and Nicola Machado both of ORR

CP6 has seen some really important steps to deploying ERTMS solutions including getting UK government support for a digital future, the comprehensive cross industry engagement and the establishment of ECDP as the flagship deployment project. The CP7 determination will set the scene for the next 5 years which will be crucial to the future deployment strategy. This talk will explore the factors and challenges considered by the regulator as it reaches its final determination.

Ian Maxwell has spent over 40 years in the railway signalling industry with the last 15 years at the ORR providing expert signalling input to both safety and economic regulation activities. In recent years he has spent an increasing amount of time engaging with industry partners to better understand the needs and challenges of the migration to an ERTMS based railway.

Nicola Machado is an experienced railway professional having worked in the industry for 17 years for organisations including Network Rail, Crossrail Ltd and the Office of Rail and Road. She specialises in the project management of capital delivery programmes. Most recently Nicola has led ORR’s work on the economic regulation of digital signalling projects for the 2023 Periodic Review (PR23).
