The IRSE and the Scottish Section are delighted to host the return of the International Convention for 2022. The event is to be held in the vibrant city of Glasgow, famous for being one of the friendliest cities in the world. Named the European city of culture in 1990, Glasgow has an impressive array of architecture ranging from imposing Victorian public buildings to the sublime designs of Charles Rennie Macintosh and the striking modern structures along the Clyde River, once the home of Scotland’s thriving shipbuilding industry. It has over 20 museums and art galleries including the Riverside Museum, a radical space designed by Zaha Hadid that reveals the history of transport in the city. Delegates will have time to explore the many delights this exciting city has to offer including its thriving food quarter and shops to rival any European city. Many of the country’s most famous sites including lochs and castles are within an hour’s travel from the city.

Based at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel in the famous Argyle Street, registration begins at 18:00 on Monday 12 September followed by a welcome reception where drinks and a finger buffet will be served. Technical visits are scheduled to: Larbert School, the Carstairs modernisation project, the West of Scotland Signalling Centre, the Bo’Ness Railway, Glasgow Central Station and Glasgow Subway. In addition there will be supplier presentations and demonstrations.

No trip to Scotland would be complete without visiting the iconic Forth Rail Bridge. A boat trip has been arranged on the penultimate day for all delegates to enjoy lunch whilst sailing under all three Forth Bridges.

Evening activities include a civic reception at the Riverside Museum on Tuesday, courtesy of The Rt Hon the Lord Provost of Glasgow Councillor Jacqueline McLaren. There will also be an optional Ceilidh night for those wishing to immerse themselves further into Scottish music and dance on Wednesday.  Thursday evening is a free evening and the Convention ends on Friday evening with a Gala dinner where kilt wearing is optional!

A full partners’ programme is provided although partners are of course welcome to attend any or all of the technical visits.
