London & South East Section - Negative Short Circuit Devices
25 Mar 2021 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Section: London & South East
Neil Clegg has worked for Network Rail for the last 15 years, with a little career break in 2019/2020 to go travelling round in a self-converted campervan. He started as an advanced apprentice in 2005 in the Distribution & Plant discipline working in Preston. Following successful completion of the scheme he worked as a technical, then a team leader for the next 8 years. In 2015 he moved to London to further his career as a project engineer in E&P. He has worked on numerous exciting schemes such as Reading 10 car enhancements, HV switchgear renewals, Cross Rail 2, BMUP (Brighton Mainline Upgrade Programme) and CARS (Croydon Area Remodelling Scheme) and more recently been focussing his delivery efforts on NSCDs (Negative Short Circuiting Devices). NSCDs are equipment which are generally installed at TPHs (Track Paralleling Huts) and substations across the Southern Region, they are a switching device which is able to be controlled remotely by an operator which places a short circuit on an electrical section, increasing safety and in turn possession time availability. The amount of safety incidents Network Rail has on the DC network which are relating to isolation support staff placing straps in the wrong possession, not testing the conductor rail prior to applying straps is scary. This is why Neil loves leading the safe delivery of NSCDs across Kent and Sussex Routes.
