Future Communications - imagining the future (Webinar 7 November 2019)
07 Nov 2019 12:15 PM - 3:30 PM
Section: Presidential programme - webinar

Communications technology is fundamental to control systems and evolves rapidly. Railways are not the first to implement and should be able to learn the lessons for others who have gone before us, but equally rarely seem to. We need to break the pattern of current technology and delivery solutions by pushing at the door of concepts such as common shared networks, large scale LTE utilisation and standardised mainline and metro communication offerings, with primary aims being quality of service, affordability and “cultural” change keeping pace with our travelling customer’s growing demands.

This webinar event will allow worldwide participation to push for innovative change and build networks and communities through which they nurture and spread ideas and catalyse action.

Speaker line-up:

  • Keynote address by George Clark, President of IRSE and Director of Engineering, Transport for London
  • Steve Denniss: Technical Director Digital Knowledge and Information, WSP
  • Ben Allen: Senior Telecoms Innovation Engineer, Network Rail, representing Shift2Rail
  • Russell Clarke: General Manager for Mobility Communications, Siemens
  • Gary Joynes Principal Engineer, Railway Signalling & Control Systems, Transport for London
  • Alan O'Reilly: Enterprise Systems Engineer, Cisco
  • Duncan Robb: Principal Consultant (Communications & Information Systems), SNC-Lavalin
  • Volker Ziegler; BSG Leadership, Nokia Bell Labs & CTO
