The IRSE recognises that the exchange of ideas and information is critical to both the industry and also to an individual’s own career success. Even in the age of the Internet, meeting other professionals at technical (and social) events provides a facility for networking and learning.
IRSE Sections have been formed in a number of countries in order to enable members to meet together, hold events, give technical presentations and share their knowledge.
We have been forming Sections in various parts of the world rapidly in recent years. In 2016 we have established Sections in France, Thailand and China.
Outside the UK, there are sections in:
- Hong Kong
- North America
- Southern Africa
Within the UK, there are five provincial sections:
- Midland and North Western
There is also a section specialising in Minor Railways.
Each Section organises its own activities and liaises with the main IRSE organisation on membership matters and the organisation of technical visits and conventions.
The Younger Members also hold meetings, conferences and technical visits aimed specifically at engineers in the early stages of their training and development. Membership is automatic for all members of the Institution up to the age of 35.
